Demonstrative adjectives II

Remember learning about the demonstrative adjectives este/esta and ese/esa? There is actually one other demonstrative adjective in Spanish: aquel/aquella, meaning roughly, “that one over there.”
Using the 3 Demonstrative Adjectives
You should be pretty comfortable with how este and ese work. Aquel is simply one more layer. Like the others, it must agree with its noun in number and gender.
There is no direct translation for it in English, but aquel/aquella is basically used to refer to things farther away than ese/esa. Imagine a bull’s eye with you at the center. Este/esta is the first ring out, then ese/esa, and finally aquel/aquella.
Examples:
Me gusta ese carro, perro no aquel carro. (I like that car, but not that car over there.)
Aquella camisa es más bonita que esta falda. (That shirt over there is prettier than this skirt.)
Aquellos hombres son muy altos. (Those men over there are very tall.)
Este lápiz es amarillo, ese lápiz es verde, y aquel lápiz es gris. (This pencil is yellow, that pencil is green, and that pencil over there is grey.)
Demonstrative adjectives are used to demonstrate to which object you are referring.
this: este/esta
these: estos/estas
that: ese/esa
those: esos/esas
that over there: aquel/aquella
those over there: aquellos/aquellas
