Ir I
Introduction
“To go” is one of the most frequently used verbs in English — and in Spanish. Ir (“to go” in Spanish) is super irregular, however, so the only option is memorization and tons of practice.
Conjugation
The following are the conjugations for ir in the present tense:
You might notice that, except for the yo and vosotros/vosotras forms, the conjugations for ir look a lot like those for regular -ar verbs. Also notice that the yo conjugatioins for estar and ir are pretty similar (estoy and voy). Any time you see patterns like this, make a note -- it will be easier to remember the conjugations later on.
Apart from the wacky conjugations, ir is pretty easy to use. If you are talking about going to a specific place, use al or a la after the verb (depending on the gender of the place to which you are going). Check out the examples below.
Examples:
Yo voy al mercado.
Elena va a la iglesia.
Nosotros vamos a la piscina para nadar.
Ellos van al cine.
Tú vas al banco.
