Preterite I/II: Irregulars
Introduction
As with the present tense, there are some verbs in the preterite that are irregular (that is, they do not follow the normal preterite conjugations). There is quite a bit of overlap; many verbs that are irregular in the present are also irregular in the preterite. However, there are some verbs that are irregular in the present but regular in the preterite, and vice versa. As with most irregular things, you will have to memorize these conjugations, but hopefully you will see enough patterns to make it a little bit easier.
